Unit 731 was one of the two most infamous, large-scale war crimes committed by Japan during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Everything at Unit 731 having been destroyed, Ishii and his men escaped with the retreating army to avoid capture. All evidence at Unit 731 headquarters had to be destroyed, including prisoners and biological material.
