Apple, anyone?

12.05.2015

Don't be afraid, we haven't transformed into a healthy food festival. Since the main theme of Maribor festival 2015 is WOMAN, and since this is our very first 2015 bulletin, I just couldn’t help myself thinking about the very first woman, Eve. Poor soul is held responsible for the man(kind) being banished from paradise (and ever since we, her female descendants, have to live with the guilt.) Why? Because she was curious? Because she wanted to know? Well, dear female (and other gendered) friends of Maribor Festival: I've got good news for you! The 2015 festival is going to be all about being curious and wanting to know!

We shall try no less than to unveil all the seven veils and get to the bottom of the mystery called woman. 10 concerts, 10 fantastic opportunities to glimpse into the fragile but immensely elaborated (yes, some would call them complicated) inner universes of women's souls.

Muses and creators, lovers and mothers, saints and seductresses, cruel mythical Dracaenas and gentle protectors of fragile artistic souls – one way or another the image of women will be reflected in each and every event of the festival. We have programs featuring composers, such as Kaija Saariaho, Olga Neuwirth, Nina Šenk and Nana Forte. We are proud to announce violinist Satu Vänskä, soprano Karen Vourc'h, and pianist Polina Leschenko on our stages. We are thrilled to introduce the famous Australian singer, actress and cabaret performer Meow Meow, who will spice the goings on with a touch of erotic. Speaking of which: of course, there will be men involved, too. We can love them, we can hate them, but we surely can’t do without them! The last is certainly true for Richard Tognetti, whom we are happy to have with us for the seventh time. Our favourite “adopted Mariborian” will be joined by our favourite “almost Mariborian” Marko Letonja, as well as with Nathan Braude (viola), Joseph Tawadros (oud), Christian Schmidt (piano), Jaka Pucihar (piano), Jaka Stadler (violoncello), and, last but not least, members of our festival orchestra.

So don't let the title of Festival Maribor 2015 alarm you. It's not going to be (about) women only. And we certainly won't make the paradise disappear. Quite the opposite!
