Günter Neuhold, conductor

Austrian conductor Günter Neuhold was born in Graz and has established himself throughout his expansive international career as an accomplished artist. After completing his studies in Graz, Rome and Vienna, he was engaged at various German opera houses between 1972 and 1980, a period he closed as first Kapellmeister in Hannover and Dortmund.

From 1981 to 1986 he was Chief Conductor of the Orchestra Sinfonica dell'Emilia-Romagna  “Arturo Toscanini“ and Music Director of the Teatro Regio di Parma, where he devoted most of his time to Verdi's operas. From 1986 to 1990 he was Chief Conductor and Musical Director of the Koninklijk Filharmonisch Orkest van Vlaanderen in Antwerp, which achieved international acclaim under his directorship. He toured in Germany, Italy, Great Britain and France and functioned as General Music Director at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe from 1989 to 1995, where he performed Wagner's Ring Cycle. From 1995 to 2002 he was General Music Director and Artistic Director at the Theater der Freien Hansestadt Bremen. From 2008 to 2014 he was Chief Conductor and Music Director of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao. 

Besides his permanent engagements, he conducted world-renowned orchestras, such as Vienna Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden, Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, WDR Köln, MDR Leipzig, NDR Hamburg und Hannover, SWF Baden-Baden, SDR Stuttgart, RSO Berlin, Gürzenich-Köln, HNPO Budapest as well as practically all leading Italian, French and Spanish orchestras, including the numerous Asian, American, Australian and New Zealand orchestras and orchestras in renowned opera houses in Europe and elsewhere in the world.
