THE MARIBOR FESTIVAL AMONG CHILDREN

This year's Maribor Festival is happening also among the children. This decision was brought on by our reflection on the role and place of the child in classical music culture. On the one hand we strive for the early inclusion of children into the world of classical music, on the other hand this »high« culture, which is reserved for adults, mostly leaves the child out. This brings with it a further problem: the consequent exclusion of families with children from concert events. Therefore at the Maribor Festival 2016 we have smuggled the child practically everywhere, thus not only colouring the thread of the festival but also shaping its programme, which will make the participation of the entire family possible and at the same time offer abundant entertainment.

Children of all ages will be welcome at the pleasant and comfortable venues of Vetrinj Mansion and the Union Hall. A special, small piano concert with the pianist Adriana Magdovski will be dedicated to babies (and their parents). Week-long creative workshops will be prepared for younger children, who will be able to familiarise themselves with music instruments and later at the closing of this cycle attend a pleasant chamber concert together with their parents. Older children and youth will have the opportunity to explore the music world of fairy tales at a matinee performance by the Calefax Quintet and storyteller Robert Kereži, especially prepared for the young audience as well as have fun together with adults at the entertaining show of The Classic Buskers.

The programme segment Maribor Festival among Children is prepared in coproduction with the Maribor Conservatory of Music and Ballet and in collaboration with the Institute MARS Maribor.
